Biography

I have lived in the Santa Cruz area for over 18 years. I’ve been involved in the technical side of photography for over 25 years and a professional photographer for the last 5 years.

After a career in the computer field I decided to try something different and more open to my creative side. With the extensive help and support of my wife I was able to try many different aspects of photography. I have done real estate, portrait, erotic and animal photography in addition to landscape and fine art photography.

In the course of preparing my images I have gained quite a bit of experience in retouching and restoring images as well as custom matting and framing.

In the "Fine Art" area of this site are select images that possess a special something that makes them follow an artistic form or just has the appeal in subject matter that "works". However I also have a certain attraction to candid photography and being able to capture more of a person than what is just on the outside. A light in the eyes or a certain hint of a smile can sometimes bring a photograph to life and, like the feminine lines of a leaf from a particular angle, I enjoy trying to bring what I see of a person into a photograph.

For the fine art images I have worked with color slide and black and white film as well as digital cameras. I have found that each has their pluses and minuses, but have found the ease of a digital darkroom attractive over the last few years. The images here are a mix of all mediums but, please note that, unless specified, all images are digitally reproduced and not printed in a darkroom.

What you see here is only a select few of the images that are contained in my library. If there is a particular style/area/subject with which you are interested feel free to contact me. There's a good chance I may have something of interest.
